Walform machine is a portable tube reshaping machine used in a walform plus tube fitting system that produces high quality tube connections. The Walform cold reshaping machine creates a profile ring in the tube itself resulting in the recognized pressure point felt during in service assembly.
The only possible leakage path is primarily sealed off by the tried-and-tested WALFORMplus captive seal and secondarily by the metallic seal between the patented WALFORMplus shoulder and the fitting body.

DIN 2353 fittings are a range of metric tube fittings made in accordance to ISO 8434-1 standards. They are also known as "Compression-Joint" or "Bite-Type" fittings, as the profile ring in the fitting "bites" onto the tube to create the connection.
These fittings are used to connect hydraulic tubes together to form a hydraulic line that allows fluid to flow through at high pressures. A simple hydraulic line in a vessel or an oil rig can easily comprise hundreds to thousands of DIN 2353 fittings.
Under the conventional method of connecting tubes using DIN 2353 fittings, the profile ring cuts into the surface of the tube and reshapes it when the nut is tightened, creating a groove for the fitting to grip onto the tube. This procedure can only be performed by trained workmen who have undergone a course on assembly and alignment of DIN 2353 fittings, and it is more suitable for low volume production, repair works, and environments where no power supply is available.
There are still risks involved because the process is prone to human error. During tightening, workmen can over or under tighten the nuts, which can lead to leakages that pose serious dangers under high pressure — slip and fall hazards, fire danger, and contamination of the environment. Even a pinhole leak can release hydraulic fluid that is enough to penetrate both clothing and skin. The danger it can bring is definitely life threatening.
With a Walform machine, the tubes get reshaped by simply inserting the tube into the configured machine, creating a profile ring in the tube itself. A Viton seal acts as the leakage block and tubes can be connected easily just by tightening the nut. This gives consistency and quality control over all tubes, making them more reliable and safer, and dramatically reduces the risks that stem from improper assembly.
Businesses also save on manpower costs, since only one man is required to operate one machine, and less time is needed to configure a tube — allowing larger volumes to be handled. The assembly can be repeated multiple times and remain intact, unlike the conventional method where fittings can be damaged by over tightening, reducing wastage and replacement costs.

Reshaped Tube
The process of reshaping a tube is made simpler with the shift from the manual method to the machine method — the only thing the workman needs to do is insert the tube into the configured Walform machine.
With the risks of leakages reduced by the use of a Walform machine, performance efficiency can be improved, which in turn improves the overall effectiveness of the equipment. In hydraulic machinery, the primary cause of reduced performance efficiency is often internal or external fluid leakages. Businesses can also avoid purchasing new equipment and tubes prematurely — the life cycle of the equipment and tubes can be extended significantly, reducing unnecessary expenses.
The time required to reshape a tube using the Walform machine is 5 to 8 seconds versus approximately 1 minute with the manual method. Businesses save approximately 52 to 55 seconds for each tube connection, which translates to 6 to 11 more tube connections per minute than the manual method. Thus, the overall productivity and output increase.

Step 1: Prepare the Tubes — Use a tube grade suitable for cold-bending and flaring, pursuant to DIN 1630, Type NBK-3.1 B, material ST 37.4 (E235N), with tube tolerances to DIN 2391, Part C. Tubes made of stainless steel (e.g. 1.4571) must be cold-drawn seamless and scale-free heat-treated, Form m to DIN 17458, with tolerances to DIN 2391.
Step 2: Start-up — To open the tool holder, remove the unlocking pin, turn both tool holder handles anti-clockwise, then pull the handles and move them aside (attention: risk of clamping). Insert the clamping jaw with minor pressure into the tool holder up to a noticeable catch and fix the reshaping stud hand-tight using the assembly stud. To close the toolholder, swing it back into position, slide it back into its mount, pull out the unlocking pin and turn both handles clockwise until the pin engages again.

Step 3: Series assembly — Insert the tools and close the toolholder; the red fault indicator lamp goes out. Press the start key — the machine is in its basic position (repeat after every tool change). Press the start key and function key simultaneously for approx. 2 seconds; the white ready indicator lights up and the clamping jaws move to the insertion position. Slide the nut onto the tube, insert the tube horizontally up to the stop and hold it tight, then press the start key. The procedure runs automatically and cannot be interrupted. Remove the reshaped tube, examine it for quality defects such as surface damage, spalling or cracks, and check the control diameter.
