Latest Anti-Corrosion Technology pipe clamps by Stauff are developed according to DIN 3015 standards . Similar to standard pipe clamps, the main usage of ACT clamps is providing structural support by reducing vibration and noise throughout systems. The ACT clamps are most suitable for systems stationed under harsh conditions such as sub-sea, top-side, oil rigs etc. It can prevent pitting corrosion on stainless steel pipes and tubing. With the integrated anti-corrosion elastomer strips, the accumulation of seawater between clamp shell and pipe can be avoided. Several tests and such as salt-spray tests according ASTM B117 and long-term field test have been conducted for approval.

1. Specifications:

Stauff ACT clamps are design based on Stauff Clamps following DIN 3015 , Standard Series and Twin Series . It covers most of the metric and imperial pipe size from diameter of 6MM to 42MM (from 1/4" to 1 1/2") . ACT clamps are efficient in preventing crevice corrosion on stainless steel pipework under sea environment, which makes it suitable for offshore oil and gas exploration and processing. These are most suited for usage in severe environments such as subsea, top-side, and oil rigs.

ACT clamps offers time reduction in installation progress and cost savings in long term due to extended service intervals. Available in Standard Series and Twin Series, the material of clamp body is made of flame-retardant PPV0 plastic, which tested and V0 classified according to UL 94.

The anti-corrosion elastomer strips and drainage channels inside clamp body avoid the accumulation of seawater between the clamp body and tube. The clamp body also have high UV stability to provide better resistant against rain, seawater and oil.

2. Material:

ACT clamps are made of the materials that are chosen in compliance with section 7.3 (Tubing Installation) of the Norwegian Offshore Norzok Z-010 Standards , API RP 552 , standard tubing installation and NACE SP 0108-2008 norms .

The ACT clamp body is made of flame-retardant PPV0 plastic and is suitable for continuous exposure to temperatures from - 25°C to +80°C (from -13°F to +176°F) . The clamp body is made up of integrated anti-corrosion elastomer strips that prevent seawater from accumulating between the clamp body and the pipe. The dynamics of these strips generate drainage channels that help in water distribution. This innovative ACT clamp design saves time during installation and money in the long run owing to extended service intervals.

The ACT clamp body design covers the most commonly used metric and imperial pipe diameters from 6mm to 25.4mm, which range from 1/4" to 1”. Variety of pipe diameter is available upon request. Meanwhile, there is a wider size range of polypropylene or polyamide material from 6mm to 406mm.

Most accessories compatible for ACT clamps are usually available in stainless steel V4A including cover plate, weld plate and hexagon head bolts.

3. Causes of the Corrosion on Pipes:

Corrosion of installed stainless steel pipes can be caused by a variety of reasons. For instance, the presence of chlorides ion (eg. sodium chlorides) in seawater coupled with high temperatures can result in the formation of small pits around metal surfaces especially stainless steel. These pits are the result of early corrosion, which eventually leads to the formation of small holes on the surface areas of metal. These tiny holes get larger gradually day by day, causing damage to the tube walls without leaving any visible indications on the outside. As the pits become deeper, they may be observed by visual inspection without any aided tool.

Furthermore, Crevice Corrosion is another cause that results in the corrosion of stainless steel pipes. When the working fluid in the environment is restricted to a specific location, crevice corrosion occurs. It's worth mentioning that stainless steel can only be anti-corrosive if it's coated with an ultrathin protective oxide coating. Nevertheless, there are occurrences where these ultrathin protective oxide coatings are broken down, resulting in the formation of fissures during time. Crevice corrosion may be hazardous to the environment as it permits extremely combustible chemicals and liquids to escape. Crevice corrosion is often caused by changes in the local chemistry inside the protected region, which is always associated with a stagnant solution at the micro-environmental level: A change to acidic conditions.
